CITY FOLK FESTIVAL
SET
FOR SEPT. 29 TH AND 30 TH
OCEAN
CITY , N.J.--- The City's third annual Folk Festival
By The Sea is set for Sept. 29 and 30th in the historic
Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Performances
are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29; 1 p.m. and
7:30 p.m. , Saturday. Sept. 30.
Tickets
are $10 per concert with a $25 ticket available for all
three programs. Folks over 55 will be admitted for $5 or
half price. Children
12 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted to
all programs free. Tickets
will be available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., open
Mon. through Fri., from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. , call 609-525-9300

Friday
evening's performance features Songs of the Sea with David
Jones, Theresa Pyott Mary Zikos and Jim Albertson plus a
concert by the Snake Brothers Band.
David
Jones is a British singer of ballads and sea songs. Mary
Zikos is a member of the “Liverpool Judies,” a women's sea
shanty group. Theresa Pyott is former secretary of the University
of Pennsylvania Folklore Department and is chair of the
Philadelphia Folk Festival. Jim Albertson is a Folkways
recording artist, Down Jersey radio host and was the first
president of the N.J. Folklore Society.
The
Snake Brothers are a popular South Jersey bluegrass, country
western swing band.
Saturday
at 1 p.m., there will be a free children's concert. It will
include folk songs and story telling. Jeff Munsick, the
Singing Cowboy, will sing classics like This Land is Your
Land, teach children how to yodel and tell humorous stories.
Valerie
Vaughn, New Jersey Pinelands troubadour, will sing and tell
stories about the great open spaces of New Jersey . Jim
Albertson will tell tales of the fearsome Jersey Devil.
The program will also feature a lively program of Irish
music by the McDermott's Handy Band.
The
festival concludes Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with Steve Byrne,
an acclaimed old time country blues performer followed by
the renowned Delaware Valley Celtic Harp Orchestra. The
unique harp orchestra plays fast paced reels, jigs and Irish
and English folk songs.
