SCARBOROUGH INN ANNOUNCES
EASE-THE-PAIN-AT-THE-PUMP SPECIAL
OCEAN CITY, NJ- After 20 years of running the Scarborough
Inn in Ocean City, New Jersey Gus and Carol Bruno thought
they had seen it all - until they went to their local
gas station. They could not believe the price of gas
had gone so high so fast and the ‘pain at the
pump’ they were feeling. As the attendant pumped
their gas, they began talking about how much gas is
across the country. Living and shopping locally the
Bruno’s do not drive as much as others do across
the country and they couldn’t imagine what the
effect on the family budget the increased gas prices
must be having. On the way home, they continued talking
about what activities they would they have to trim out
of their family budget if the price of gas was going
to remain above $3.50 a gallon all summer. They talked
about reducing the number of trips off the island and
more drastically, reducing the number of planned trips
to visit friends in Pennsylvania or to Connecticut where
Gus was raised. They could tolerate reducing their local
driving but were troubled by reducing the number of
visits to see their friends. Those trips are a special
time for the Bruno’s to escape the cares of their
business and relax. They thought of all the families
across the country that would be sacrificing their special
trips to see family, friends or a favorite vacation
spot. They contemplated the thousands of people who
visit Ocean City, New Jersey each year and wondered
if those families would be reducing their visits to
the shore. Over the next few days, as they watched the
price of gas continue to climb, Gus and Carol began
wondering what ‘they’ could do to help the
ease the pain families were feeling in their budgets
and wallets. After long consideration and thought, the
Bruno’s determined that as business owners what
‘they’ could do is help ease their pain
families were feeling in their budgets and wallets.
Therefore, Gus and Carol resolved that as long as the
price of gas is above $3.50 per gallon in Ocean City,
New Jersey guests making new reservations for three
or more night stay midweek at their bed and breakfast,
the Scarborough Inn, would receive a $50 gift card for
gas. “We hope this small effort will encourage
people to make the drive to the shore and help alleviate
some of the pain families are feeling at the pump,”
Gus stated when announcing this special offer.
