Bike Mural to be Dedicated

Art and biking may seem like an unusual combination but it makes perfect sense as the Ocean City Community Art Projects (CAP) group dedicates their latest mural along the new Bike Way on Haven Avenue. Created by local artist, Stephen Gibson, the mural will celebrate biking through the ages and is being installed along a wall at 15th. Street and Haven Avenue – the group’s first intersection mural.

The public is invited to participate in the dedication that will take the form of a Bicycle (naturally) Parade on Saturday, May 22 at 1PM. Beginning at 20th. Street and Haven Avenue, cyclists will ride north to the site of the new mural and the official dedication ceremony. Riders are reminded to wear their bike helmets!

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 23.

CAP’s Mission is to “beautify the community and make Ocean City, NJ a destination for Public Art.” The group has already made impressive progress toward this goal. They are responsible for a number of murals and sculptures around the island. In fact, Stephen Gibson, created another mural on a wall adjacent to City Hall on Asbury Avenue. It includes a depiction of the “old” bridge into Ocean City.
