Ocean City, NJ is about more than a pristine beach and exciting boardwalk; in fact, today it is about the Farmer’s Market where we can buy local food directly from the growers! Spread out over the west end of the Tabernacle grounds (between 5th. & 6th. streets on Asbury Avenue), the Farmer’s Market runs every Wednesday from mid-July through August. Here, locals and vacationers alike can buy beautifully fresh, local fruits and vegetables in season – nothing could be better!
Scarborough Inn guests are just a couple of blocks from the site of the market and we will be happy to give you directions. Of course, Miss Linda (cook at our Bed & Breakfast) prepares a delicious Breakfast plus Afternoon Refreshments for those spending their Jersey shore vacation with us. But that leaves lunch! Or, if you are heading home on a Wednesday, stop at the Farmer’s Market and take home a “Jersey Fresh” taste of the “Garden State.”
We are heading over to the Farmer’s Market now to buy the freshest local produce for our Scarborough Inn guests. I’ll let you know what is on offer today.
The Farmer’s Market is brimming with an assortment of scrumptious-looking fresh local produce! There’s twenty or more individual stalls which means you can choose from a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, canned goods and baked goods, fresh cut flowers and potted plants all in one place! Today’s bounty includes tomatoes, green peppers, corn, red-skinned and white potatoes, eggplants, zucchini and yellow squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe, peaches, blueberries, blackberries, honey, jams and jellies, and so much more.
We gathered the items on Linda’s shopping list and loaded them into the van to take to the inn. Then we couldn’t resist selecting a few items for our lunch – tiny Littleneck Clams (just harvested yesterday), Jersey tomatoes (grown without pesticides), and a couple of ears of corn (with multi-colored kernels, said to be the sweetest).
It is a rainbow feast of colors and flavors! Isn’t summer grand?
