|New Jersey Pine Barrens|
The Pine Barrens of New Jersey is an incredible environmental feature of the “Garden State.” Encompassing nearly one-quarter of the state and spread throughout seven counties, the Pine Barrens was the first United States Natural Reserve so designated. Parts of the Pinelands are very close to Ocean City and may be easily visited during your Ocean City Vacation.
With Earth Day celebrated this month, it’s the perfect time to focus on some of the natural wonders of New Jersey!
The NJ Pine Barrens is also a United Nations World Biosphere Preserve and within its borders may be found a wealth of natural resources. It is home to pygmy forests, carnivorous plants, and orchids! It also contains many flowers, reptiles, and amphibians – some found nowhere else in New Jersey – and a few found nowhere else on the planet!
The perfect place for hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking, the Pine Barrens also features a number of historical towns, festivals that celebrate local culture or produce (cranberries and blueberries, for example), and sites for birdwatching, hunting, and fishing. A local website, Piney Power, celebrates and educates about this unique and special New Jersey location.
During your next visit to the Scarborough Inn, we’ll be happy to help you discover how you can explore the New Jersey Pine Barrens – close to the inn and yet a world apart.
