|New Jersey Strawberries|
When New Jersey strawberries finally appear, we know the ‘Season” has arrived! So I was thrilled to see New Jersey berries in the market this week! Guests of the Scarborough Inn B&B will be finding these delectable berries on their Breakfast menu.
Our fabulous cook, Linda, will undoubtedly be making some chocolate-covered strawberries as well. They are a popular treat – the perfect combination of juicy sweetness and rich, decadent chocolate. Candy stores both in the Downtown and on the Boardwalk also carry these treats, so look for chocolate-covered strawberries to take home – if you can wait that long.
Farm markets are a great source of these seasonal berries. And then there are the myriad delicious recipes that feature strawberries – jam, and shortcake, and pie, and sundaes, and more! Some New Jersey farmers offer pick-your-own opportunities, too.
On Saturday, May 21, the Historical Preservation Society of Upper Township will be hosting their annual Strawberry Festival at the Gandy Farmstead (26 Tyler Road, Greenfield, Upper Township). The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes music, vendors, and the “star” of the day – homemade Strawberry Shortcake! The rain date is Sunday, May 22.
Accommodations at the Scarborough Inn B&B always include Breakfast and Afternoon Refreshments – both featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients – like Jersey Strawberries! Breakfast is served at individual tables in the light-filled Dining Room; Afternoon Refreshments may be found in the Butler’s Pantry or on the 100-foot wraparound front porch.
