|NOYES MUSEUM OF ART|
I find local museums exciting places to visit during a vacation getaway. They are usually smaller than large, metropolitan institutions making them much more accessible as to time and energy required to enjoy the exhibits. In addition, local museums frequently have a local focus – featuring artists and/or subjects from the surrounding area and that adds to visitor’s appreciation of the neighborhood.
When my sister was in Ocean City recently, we made plans to visit the NOYES Museum of Art in nearby Oceanville, New Jersey. Now associated with Stockton College, the museum is perched on the shore of small Lily Lake and surrounded by Pinelands and a few, scattered residences. When we visited, several exhibits were featured – they were all varied and interesting – and we had a delightful afternoon strolling through the galleries.
The museum may be reached by heading north on the Garden State Parkway or by using local Route 9, but be aware, the entrance is not well marked so be on the lookout as you approach your destination. Check the NOYES MUSEUM website for hours, current exhibits, or special events and enjoy this small local museum – not far from the Scarborough Inn!
